3A-Metro-line-to-reach-Jakkur-Lake-Bengaluru

The State Cabinet has approved the new Namma Metro Phase 3A project. This metro line will connect Sarjapur to Hebbal, passing through Jakkur Lake and Total Environment Down by The Water will have station nearby and will cost ₹28,405 crore. It will cover 36.6 kilometers, with 22.1 kilometers being elevated and having 17 stations, and 14.5 kilometers going underground with 11 stations.

This metro line will link Bengaluru’s IT hub in the east to northern areas. It will start as an elevated line in Sarjapur and join the Blue Line (Central Silk Board to Kempegowda Airport) at Iblur. It will then go underground near Koramangala and meet the Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara) at Dairy Circle.

The plan for this line was part of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan-2020. Now that the state government has approved it, the project will be sent to the central government for final approval and funding.

In earlier metro projects, BMRCL completed 42.3 kilometers under Phase 1, though it was delayed and finished in 2017 instead of 2012. Phase 2 aimed to build 72 kilometers by 2021, but so far, only 34.6 kilometers are running. Delays in Phase 2 caused costs to rise from ₹26,405 crore to ₹40,614 crore.

One part of Phase 2, the Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra, has been ready for 1.5 years but isn’t running yet because metro coaches weren’t delivered on time. This line is important for connecting the IT area of Electronics City.

Under Phases 2A and 2B, a 58-kilometer line is being built from Central Silk Board to the airport. Recently, the central government also approved Phase 3, which will add 44 kilometers connecting Kempapura to JP Nagar and Hosahalli to Kadabagere. BMRCL is now testing the ground to start construction soon.
